# What should 3% on defence actually buy?

From [the UKJP’s manifesto](https://ukjp.org.uk/manifesto/), Defence: _Defence spending of at least 3% of national income by the end of the Parliament… paid for first from the foreign aid budget._

What should Britain be able to do militarily that it cannot do today?

Any position may be argued here, including that the question is framed wrongly.
